This African American Human Rights Activist, Journalist and Women’s Rights Campaigner is always associated with American politics but she also lived in Birmingham to raise awareness of the practice of Lynching in the Southern States of America.

Ida B Wells came to Birmingham on 17th May 1893 and lectured at the Young Men’s Christian Assembly Rooms in Needless Alley and then at the Central Hall in the evening.
